The crisis rocking the Kogi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) appears intractable as hope of implementation of the Tony Mommoh led Fact finding and Reconciliation Committee report by the party faithful may be dashed by the Chief Odigie Oyegun led national working committee. Another six man ad-hoc committee is in the offing, a party source revealed to Tribune Online.
Checks revealed that the report submitted by the former national chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, (CPC) identified poor-governor party relations and complicity of members of the party national working committee as some of the reasons for the impasse in the state chapter. Other factors identified by the Committee were none or poor stakeholders’ consultations, skewed appointments against APC, lack of political reconciliation with Audu/Faleke group, anti-party activities, arrears of workers’ salaries, amongst others.
Speaking with newsmen last June shortly after submitting his report to Chief Oyegun, Prince Mommoh said he was confident that his Committee’s recommendations would go a long way to restore amity in the Kogi State chapter while appealing to the state governor, Yahaya Bello to accommodate aggrieved chieftains of the party.
Mommoh said: ‘’Actually if you look at it, everybody accepts that he is the chief executive but all other people have their own grouses against the governor and he too has his own defence but I can assure you that the recommendations we made should be acceptable to all parties involved. We made a win-win concession.’’
But a party source disclosed to Tribune Online that the Oyegun led national working committee has resolved to cosign the recommendations to the dustbin ‘’since governor Bello isn’t comfortable with the report.’’
Further checks revealed that a six- man ad-hoc committee to further explore avenues for reconciliation in the simmering conflict in its Kogi state chapter, would soon be inaugurated by Chief Oyegun.
The party source revealed that members of the committee to be unveiled soon, include, Idris Garba who will serve as Chairman, while Umar Kareto Rufai Garba, former national chairman of the defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party, (ANPP) Don Etiebet, former Speaker, House of Representatives, Patricia Etteh and Joseph Orji.
