Ahead of the 2019 general election, the rumours making round that the House of Representatives candidate for the Lokoja-Kogi(Koto) Federal constituency, Hon Abdulkarim Isah Wambai’s name will be withdrawn and replaced with Hon. Haruna Isah by the Kogi state chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) can only be carried by the daft and believed by some dangerous illiterates in the Federal constituency.
Although such rumours are better waved away by the back of a hand than being dignified, it is imperative to set the record straight, lest the unsuspecting populace are misled.
In an effort to beat the dateline given by the INEC, all the primary elections in Kogi state were all concluded and the name submitted to the INEC. Wambai’s name has made the list as APC’s candidate for the Lokoja-Kogi Federal constituency.
Therefore, the only ground upon which his name will be replaced is:
1. If he dies.
2. Write to resign
3. Incapacitated to the extent that he can’t perform the duty of that office if elected. But to remove his name without the occurrence of the factors stated above is to enthrone anarchy and internal wrangling that may rock the APC from its very foundation.
However, to argue that because the dateline for the submission of the names of candidates of political parties has been extended or otherwise and as such Hon Haruna Isah’s supporters and handlers will press for the withdrawal of wambai’s name is nothing but a cock and bull story which has no any legal basis.
Should the Kogi APC allowed itself to be dragged nilly willy into this act of illegality and rape of our democratic process, it can be challenged and as such actionable in the court of law.  I believe the leadership of the APC is wiser and its integrity has transcend beyond the level some people are insinuating!
Nevertheless, only those who are ignorant of the position of the law on this would lend credence to this tale by moonlight, peddled by Haruna Isah’s supporters and Co just to obliterate the relics of their desperation and continuity in the face of popular votes by the APC delegates in favour of Hon Wambai.
Any attempt to replace Hon. Abdulkarim Isah Wambai will be fatal to the success of the ruling party in the Lokoja Koto federal constituency and it will brew a political calamity in which no one will calculate the consequences.
They shouldn’t forget so soon their opposition and attempt to replace late Hon Buba jibril at all cost during the first aborted primary of the bye-election and how this development gave the PDP more popularity just as their political manourvers did not operated in his favour.
It is therefore time for the party to learn a lesson. A goat, they say, learns a lesson after the ear has been cut off. Make no mistake.
