Immediately the state high court sitting in lokoja granted bail to the Administrator of Ijumu local government area and chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Kogi state chapter, Alh. Taufiq Isa, for the allegations against him on assassination attempt on Sen. Dino Melaye,Taufiq’s kinsmen and associates gave him a resounding welcome to his country home at Odokoro-Gbede in ljumu local govt area of kogi state.
The ALGON boss was received into the warm embrace of his people who are dressed in branded T-shirts and waited patiently for about three hours singing and dancing in anticipation.
In an extraordinary demonstration of affection, friends and relatives of Alh. Taufiq Isa came out in their thousands to receive him as he returned back to his hometown after been detained for three weeks on the allegations of assassination attempt on Sen. Dino Melaye. His arrival was greeted with jubilation from Kabba township up to the home of Senator Dino Melaye at Aiyetoro-Gbedde in Ijumu LGA.
In an emotional welcome home event organised by his kinsmen, supporters and political associates made a perfect arrangement for his reception since the people got wind of Taufiq imminent return following his detention, May 15. But his appearance in town at about 10am on Tuesday, in a convoy brought the community to a fever pitch. The town was agog with jubilation as the crowd of kinsmen, associates and some of his colleagues (Administrators) sang and danced from Kabba to Aiyetoro-Gbedde back to his country home in Odokoro-Gbede, the crowd erupted into a loud and and long session of praise songs and prayers as the convoy entered the home of Alh. Taufiq in Odokoro-Gbede, the crowd shouted “our great leader is back!’there were musicians and musical stands at different locations to entertain people.
Security operatives, especially the police,and the youths wearing yellow uniforms specially designed for the occasion,had a hectic time controlling the crowd. Those who are on ground to receive the ALGON Chairman included the Administrator of Kabba-Bunu,Moses Tolorunleke, Special Adviser on Culture and Tourism, Chief Asibiojo, Senior Special Assistant on IGR, Pastor Emmanuel Obadunmi and a host of others.
Apparently, the crowd awaited a rousing speech from Alh. Taufiq Isa but on arrival at his residence, he entered his sitting room to acknowledge thunderous cheers from the people. He was taken inside shortly afterwards by some close associates, who pleaded with the people to let him have some rest after a tedious movement to several wards in Kabba and Ijumu Local Government Areas.
According to Pastor Emmanuel Obadumi, the Senior Special Assistant on IGR to the Governor of Kogi State; “we are happy that our great leader and mentor is back, people are jubilating, the crowd you are seeing here, the enthusiasm that has been displayed today, show that we really missed him.
“This is the only way to us to appreciate that our leader who was unjustly detained is back. His coming is the beginning of so many good things to come. By his presence today, I am sure we are gaining back all that we lost.
“Alhaji Taufiq remains the recognised leader of the APC in Okun land. He was the party chairman of the APC in Ijumu LGA before his appointment as the Administrator of the local government and the chairman of ALGON. We believed that he was wrongly accused of assassination attempt on Senator Dino Melaye at Aiyetoro Gbedde and charged with conspiracy to commit culpable homicide, but time shall tell”.
However, a state high court recently granted him bail after his detention for three weeks. The case was adjourned to 7th, 8th and 9th of June this year.
