By Comrade Nasir.
The member representing Ankpa 2 constituency at the Kogi state house of assembly, Hon Alfa Mommoh Rabiu has advocated for the strengthening of religious institutions to accord them more responsibilities in order to stem down the rising wave of security challenges in the state and country at large.
Speaking while hosting ulamas from his constituency as part of the activities to mark sallah celebration apparently expressed his concern over the increasing wave of security challenges in the area noting that the security agencies should increase synergy and liaise with the religious institutions in sensitization and information considering that they are closer to the people.
“I am of the opinion that we adapt the religious ways of securing our community such that religious institutions increases sensitization and the teaching of good morals in order to help check the abysmal kidnap, robbery and cult activities that has invaded our lands. So, as a lawmaker, I shall look into making moves that will constitutionally strengthen the activities of religious bodies toward a safe and habitable society.”
“We need a lot of prayers in our churches and mosques because we are faced with new kind of security challenges that is unusual. In the past, nobody gets away with murder, kidnapping or crime but these days, kidnappers and criminal kingpins walk the street freely unknown to the larger society.”
Earlier, Alh Yahaya Jalil who spoke on behalf of the visitors commended Hon Rabiu Alfa for his efforts in revamping social amenities, welfare packages and what he referred to as giving life through medical assistants to the people of the area at times of emergency.
He thereafter assured the people of the area that he is committed to contributing his quota in whatever way that will boost security and peaceful coexistence in the area by continuing to support the security agencies in the local government and state in general.
