Kogi State gubernatorial aspirant and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Sunday Umoru has officially declared his intention to contest the 2019 gubernatorial election in the state at the party’s secretariat in Lokoja.
His visit to the party secretariat recorded an impressive attendance of the PDP executives, party members and large crowd of supporters surrounding the aspirant’s motorcade convoy.
The crowd of supporters reaffirmed their undaunted support for Chief Sunday Umoru, which is a clear indication that the PDP chieftain is the people’s choice.
The aspirant was assured a level playing field for all aspirants seeking to actualise their political ambitions on the party’s platform come 2019 by the state chairman of the party, Engr. Sam Ohuotu.
Engr. Sam Ohuotu, who was represented at the occasion by the treasurer of the party in the state, Barr. Alfred Bello, dispelled insinuations that a former governor of the state had already anointed a preferred governorship candidate ahead of the election.
He said all those seeking to contest elections on the PDP platform would have to go through transparent party primaries after which the party’s flag bearers would emerge.
Earlier, the aspirant had told the party executives that he was seeking the governorship mandate on the party’s platform to enable him rescue the state from its current state of underdevelopment and hardships which he claimed were inflicted on the people by the APC-led government.
That the aspirant, after his declaration that same day at the PDP secretariat in Lokoja, headed to his home town Emoyonku Ogugu ward III to also declare his intention to contest the 2019 gubernatorial election. This to the aspirant was also an avenue to put his popularity to test in his hometown, and Chief Umoru who before now has been underrated because he is a diaspora aspirant based in the United States of America was able to shock his critics and opponents, as a result of the crowd recorded at this event in Ogugu. It was an overwhelming reception for the aspirant with over 2,000 people, who turned out to pledge their strong support for the aspirant.
The aspirant has also set a record for being the first major individual from Ogugu in Olamaboro Local government area to aspire for the governorship position of the state.
He promised to increase workers’ pay in the state to seventy thousand naira (N70,000), and as for education in state, he promised to make education free up to senior secondary school level, while the elderly age 65 and up will get free healthcare and the pregnant women will also get free healthcare up to delivery.
The aspirant also pronounce the construction of a domestic airport in the state to boost the economy of the state taking advantage of the proximity of the state to the Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja if given the mandate come 2019.
