I can influence policies to better Kogi State so I looked to politics and chose a platform I can use without losing my integrity.
Hon Okutepa Danladi Usman made this disclosure, on Friday, while briefing a media aficionado on the level of preparation for the 2019 general elections.
Despite the difficulties faced by APC stalwarts in Kogi State, he has continued with his political ambitions, contributing enormously to the political and national development in his own way.
Hon. Okutepa Danladi Usman, candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Kogi State would have made history in the last senatorial elections in the state as the first youth to scale the hurdles of electioneering campaign and break the jinx that has befuddled youths over the years from emerging successful at the polls.
Dahba, as he was fondly called, almost made it but then, the near-success syndrome that has been the lot of many youths in politics cut short his joy. Dahba was coming up strong in the race and was almost thought to have won the primary election before the table turned.
Dahba would have recorded a rare feat in elective politics had he succeeded in emerging as the winner of the election.
Over the years, Kogi youths have continued to record very poor performances in elective political offices. This is largely due to the sentimental attachment on youths. Although youths have been playing crucial role in political life of the country, this has not yielded results in terms of our performances when it comes to elective offices.
Although youths are currently participating more actively in politics than ever before, we are besieged with challenges of which discrimination is more rife.
We have had round-table discussions, open discussions, and I think it is high time we engaged in a more systematic way to be better represented in governance.
Looking back, Dahba , thinks a time has come for quota system to be applied in the scheme of things.
