Kogi 1-0 Plateau: Mayaki Dedicates Winning Goal to Wada, Wife

Ismaila Mayaki, scorer of the match winning goal for Kogi United against Plateau United in the Week 29 encounter in Lokoja, has dedicated the victory for Governor of Kogi State, Idris Wada for his outstanding support for the club this season.

Mayaki’s goal came in the 9th minute of the pulsating match against Plateau United on Saturday.

The victory capped an impressive records for Kogi United who didn’t dropped any point at home this season and also ensured they will end current campaign in the top half of the league table.

An indigene of Lokoja, Mayaki noted that Governor Wada deserves all accolades for turning around the fortune of Kogi United for better.

“I feel very happy for the victory and my goal, being the only goal, we thank God for it, despite the pressure from fans and everybody before the match, we thank God we scale through hurdle and fulfilled our promise not to drop at home this season,” begins Mayaki.

“I am dedicating the victory to Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada who is our father in this club, he so much support us all through this season, he provide that environment and his interest for football has really help to do better. I’m also dedicating it to the management of the club under Mallam Abdul Adama, my coaches, my entire team mates and also our supporters and fans for being there for us this season, they are wonderful and I pray God will give us strength to do better than this next season,” he said.

The former Rangers Int’l player also singled out his wife as his inspiration for the turn around on his recent form. He noted that the match winning goal against Jos based side was for his heartthrob.

“My wife is so special to me, you know I got married, people thought I made mistake to marry, they said that’s why I lost form and I couldn’t be able to perform again, but to God be the glory, the reverse is the case. She stood by me, ginger me up always, she didn’t give me problem and she always encourage me, so you see if I dedicate that goal for her, its not much.”

Mayaki said he’s happy to represent his state’s club and would love to remain with the Confluence State club for long.

“For now, I’m so happy here, I don’t have cause to complain, I’m enjoying life with game here, my wife is happy here, I’m close to my people and the club gives me what I want, its an honor to be playing for your own state club, its a great achievement. I’m not thinking about leaving Kogi United, but you know in football, you never can say never, but I’m happy here for now.”

Kogi United are currently having 46 points and will wrap up this campaign with away duel against Spotlight FC in Katisna on Saturday.
