Kogi State Commissioner of Environment, Hon Victor Omofaiye, on Sunday, escaped abduction attempt by whiskers. He, however, was shot in the leg by the suspected kidnappers.
The incident occurred around 5 pm on Sunday between Ikoyi and Iyara in Ijumu local government area of Kogi state.
It was further gathered that the commissioner was on his way to Lokoja when over 5 suspected kidnappers opened fire on his vehicle.
The source said two other persons were travelling in the car with the commissioner.
Omofaiye sustained gun shot wounds from the kidnappers bullets but he and his co-travelers were able to escape from the scene of the attack.
The commissioner, however, was said to be stable after the escape.
It was also gathered that some other road users were abducted and taken into the bush by the kidnappers.
The Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Hon Isah Taufiq, was reported to have since mobilized the vigilantes and hunters in search of those that were abducted by the kidnappers
The Ikoyi-Ijumu Development Association (IDA) leadership has indicated that it is highly impressed with the very swift response of the security personnel, especially, the DPO at Iyara and vigilantes, including the hunters under the direct supervision of Ijumu LG Chairman,
The Olukoyi has also visited the site of the incident for on the spot assessment.
When contracted, the Kogi state Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), DSP William Ayah said the command was to be briefed about the development.
