Police in Kogi State have disclosed former Governor Abubakar Audu’s younger brother, who was kidnapped a few weeks ago, had been released.
The state acting Police Commissioner, DCP Austin Evbakhavbokun, who disclosed this while speaking with journalists at the Command Headquarters yesterday, said one Mr. Abdullai Mohammed, whose account was used by the kidnappers, had been arrested and undergoing interrogation. Evbakhavbokun explained that N50,000, believed to be part of the ransom, was paid into the suspect’s account with the United Bank for Africa branch in Aloma in Ofu Local Government Area of the state.
He pointed out the former governor’s brother, Ibrahim Audu, had been taken to the hospital for treatment, stressing that the police would not rest until the culprits were brought to book. However, the suspect claimed to be ignorant of the charge, saying he did not know anything about the abduction.
But Mohammed, who is a teacher, claimed to know the victim very well. He said: “We grow up together in Aloma. We used to drink together, but honestly, I have nothing to do with his kidnapping. I don’t know the people behind it at all.” In a related development, the police also disclosed that they had arrested a suspect in connection with last Friday’s bank robbery in Abejukolo in Omala Local Government Area of the state.
