Students of  the Kogi State College of Education (Technical), Kabba have added to the body of technology by building a tricycle known as ‘Keke Technical’ that could perform dual functions of conveying passengers and cargo.

The Provost of the College, Dr Olushola Jagboro while conducting the Commissioner and Information Officers of the State Ministry of Information and Communications round the College technology lab, said the Keke Technical is an innovation that is capable of halting the importation of tricycles (Keke NAPEP) from Asia, saying the college has all it takes to drive the technological advancement of the nation.

“As you can see, the Governor has given us great support to generate innovative ideas to move our nation forward. The coming of Governor Yahaya Bello is a blessing to this college. Before his emergence as Governor, this place was a forest. But today, you can see the structures we have here and the giant strides we are recording in terms of building technical capacity.

“Our students and staff are grateful to the Governor for his commitment to the advancement of this institution. We are building and baking students who will leave this college as employers of labor rather than job seekers which is the hallmark of technical education.

“You have seen the drone built by one of our students. Technology Institutes in the United States are taking a keen interest in what we are doing here. The Keke Technical is an innovation that dwarfs what the nation is currently importing from Asia. It shows what we can do when we have the right leadership,” she said.

The Provost said the state-of-the-art Rashida Bello CBT Centre built by the Governor was adjudged as the best in the North Central by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, commending the State Government for doing the school proud with the construction and equipping of such a magnificent CBT Centre.

She however appealed to the State Government to help fix the Oguya River Bridge to allow access to the Permanent Site of the institution.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo said the visit is aimed at showcasing the giant strides of the Yahaya Bello Administration to the world.

“It is the responsibility of our Ministry to showcase the giant strides of the administration to the world. What we have found here is unbelievable. It further confirrns the commitment of Governor Yahaya Bello to education, especially Technical Education.

“We have seen the great innovative powers of our young minds. We are not only fighting insecurity with AK 47, but turning them to harbingers of technological magic.

“The Keke Technical is an innovation that the world must see. As an administration, we won’t allow the idea die without hitting our roads. The administration of Alh. Yahaya Bello believes in home grown technology.

“We have also seen what we need to do to make the institution better. When we were coming here, the Governor told me to report not only the positives, but also inform him the gaps we need to bridge. We have taken note of those areas and will report same to the Government”.
