During my National Youth Service in Kano in early 2023, there was intense tension between the state’s two major political parties which was the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
These camps were led by two influential political godfathers: Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (RMK) of the NNPP and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of the APC

RMK was rooting fiercely for Engr. Abba Kabir (Gida Gida) for governor, while Ganduje worked wholeheartedly to ensure Gawuna emerged victorious by all means
RMK and his supporters didn’t give INEC an inch of space. From election day through the eve of the announcement, they remained vigilant, staying awake all night until they eventually performed their Subhi (morning prayer) right there at the INEC office
All these sacrifices were made to ensure Abba was declared the winner and Gawuna was defeated
But today, the formations have completely flipped in a shocking reversal, Abba has moved to Ganduje’s camp, while Gawuna is reportedly on his way to joining Kwankwaso’s group
What will now happen to the die-hard supporters who clashed during the 2023 election?
Do you think they were consulted before these high-level decisions were made?
As a political supporter, always remember: your leader may one day set his table before your “enemy,” and it will be entirely for their own benefit
Always remember you might not matter to them as much as you think. Develop yourself to be more relevant outside politics.
Don’t come and be dying for who their children had no voter’s card, and those who’s their children has Facebook account but will never use it to post their father’s campaign posters.
