Kabba’s Theatre of the Absurd: The Doomed ‘No Confidence’ Crusade Against Senator Karimi

In what political analysts are describing as a “carefully scripted but poorly executed drama,” a faction of the APC Women Leaders in Kabba has joined the fray of a failing “No Confidence” campaign against the Senator representing Kogi West, Sunday Karimi.

Following closely on the heels of a widely discredited meeting by 15 Ward Chairmen on March 12th, this latest “protest” by a handful of women leaders is being viewed as the second act of a political comedy sponsored by interests desperate to silence the Senator’s growing influence.

In a pattern of sponsored pettiness and stagnant tactics, the narrative remains the same: a group of individuals, herded together and incentivized by the shadowy figures of the “King 501” camp, are attempting to create the illusion of a grassroots uprising. However, the reality on the ground tells a much different story.

What is most striking about this persistent campaign is its utter lack of innovation. For months, these detractors have recycled the same tired tactics—rented crowds, scripted press releases, and baseless declarations—none of which have yielded a single positive result. This intellectual bankruptcy and failure to adapt to the modern political climate have left their efforts dead on arrival. They are fighting a 21st-century leader with a 1990s playbook, and the disconnect is glaring.

The real reason for this unabated attack is not Senator Karimi’s “performance” (which is statistically undeniable) but his refusal to bow to the deceptive “16-16-16” slogan.

Senator Karimi has become a thorn in the side of the political establishment by:

Calling out the Scam and publicly labeling the 16-16-16 arrangement a “conjured deceit” designed to marginalize certain regions of the state.

Consistently pushing for the enforcement of the Supreme Court ruling on LG financial autonomy.
Insisting that the governance of Kogi State must be based on genuine equity rather than scripted narratives.

While his detractors spend money on press conferences and placards, Senator Karimi has been spending his constituency allowance—and even personal funds—on projects that directly impact lives.

With ₦1.4 Billion spent on 140 boreholes (75 new solar-powered, 60 rehabilitated)
Personally financed a state-of-the-art Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Egbe
N100 Million annual bursary for 1,000 students; N1 Billion upgrade for GSS Koton Karfi
N3 Billion personal contribution to expedite the Kabba-Egbe Road just to mention a few, the inconsequential “No Confidence” is complete loss of touch with reality.

The persistent “hand of Esau” in these protests is widely believed to be the individual mockingly referred to as “King 501.” Allegations continue to swirl regarding the humongous sums of money used to mobilize these women and ward chairmen.

“It is a delusion of grandeur,” says a high-ranking APC stakeholder who requested anonymity. “To think that 15 people in a room can override the Electoral Act and the will of the masses who are seeing boreholes, bursaries, and security bases appearing in their backyard is laughable.”

The attempt to berate Senator Karimi is a campaign doomed to fail because it ignores the most fundamental rule of politics: the people know the truth. Despite the mischievous and baseless conspiracies being cooked up in Kabba, Senator Sunday Karimi continues to enjoy the overwhelming and unwavering support of the majority of Kogi West constituents.

Under the New Electoral Act, the power to determine a Senator’s future no longer resides with a few “jesters” in a Kabba meeting hall; it rests with the voters in the 85 wards. As long as the “King” and his court choose antics over innovation, they will continue to watch from the sidelines as Senator Karimi consolidates his remarkable performance for the good of all.
