A public affairs analyst in Kogi state, Mr Johnson Musa has described the decision of Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to declare Monday, August 21, 2017 a public holiday to celebrate the home coming of President Muhammadu Buhari after over 100 days medical holiday in London as juvenile, insensitive, sycophantic and self serving.
Johnson, who made this known in a chat with this reporter, queried why the governor decided to celebrate by declaring a public holiday while his subjects are mourning in Yagba West local government area after a strange epidemic that has reportedly killed over 62 persons.
He described the action of the governor who has not visited the area where the ‘strange disease; has killed many people as at press time as insensitive and infantile disposition to things that matters most.
In his exact words, Mr Johnson Musa said, “Dear Gov Yahaya Bello, please declare tomorrow and the whole of this  week for mourning in Kogi state instead of your jamboree welcoming of Mr president.
“The people of Kogi West have over the days been encountered by what the government called strange illness which led to the death of about 65 citizens of Kogi state. To me, this is more of a concerned  than sitting at home in honor of a man who is alive.
“The business of Governance is meeting a brick wall since January 27th 2016 upon the assumption of office of Mr Yahaya Bello. Arising from unending screening, non payment of salaries, political  fights and arrest of opposition figures to mention but a few”
He urged President Buhari to visit Kogi state as a matter of urgency  as we are in near collapse systematically.
Quite unlike Kogi State government, the federal government has denied the rumors of the declaration of Monday as public holiday.
In a tweet by the personal assistant to the President on Social media, Mrs Lauretta Onochie, she urged the general public to ignore the false rumor as the government has not declared any holiday to celebrate the arrival of President Buhari to the country.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have trooped to a microblogging site, twitter to condemn the declaration of public holiday by governor Yahaya Bello.
They they described the Governors action as a technical move to divert the attention of the public from the chronic hunger, poverty and massive looting of the resources of the state under the corrupt government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
