There was wide jubilation in Egbe, a community in Yagba West Council in Kogi State at the weekend following the presentation of appointment letter to the new Baale of Egbe, Oba Abiodun Agbana.
Mr Agbana former Managing Director, Onward Fisheries, Lagos was among 21 traditional rulers presented with certificate of office in Lokoja Kogi State capital, Thursday by by the special adviser to Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Abubakar Ohere.
Women groups, youths, commercial motocyclists trooped to the resident of the monarch while the community hunters fired gun salute’s lasting till dawn to welcome the new Baale.
Meanwhile, the Egbe traditional council has debunked news reports alleging a looming crisis in the community following the development saying the support for the new Baale by Egbe people was total.
Chief Adedoyin Bolaji, Olu II of Egbe who spoke on behalf of the Egbe traditional council said the community was in joyous mood seeing a “very popular and acceptable” candidate emerged as Baale.
“A very popular and widely acceptable candidate has emerged as Baale of Egbe, the community is peaceful, everybody is happy, 99.9 percent of the community is behind the candidate, including the kingmakers”.
The new Baale, Oba Agbana who spoke in his palace in Egbe yesterday said, “As you can see, the fact remains that there is jubilation all over. Among all Egbe indigenes, locally and abroad, it is jubilation galore. It’s been four years since the position became vacant,
people became anxious seeing there was a vacuum. So it excited the community that the position is now filled.”
He appealed to his co-contestant and his backers to join hands together with him in moving the community forward.
“The community is moving forward already, the train has moved, they should come on board in moving the community forward”, he added.
