A joint security task force has rescued a kidnapped victim, Mr. Idris Idowu, from his abductors around Ponyan community in Yagba East local government area of Kogi state.
According to reports, the suspected bandits fleeing from Irele Ekiti were sighted around the Igbo Ero forest, bordering Ponyan. The armed bandits kidnapped Mr. Idris Idowu on his farm land around the Eriji settlement of Agric site, an Ebira camp in the area.
Leader of the squad, Hon. Ashiru Segun, said the operation was informed by a distress call received by the Police on 26th February, 2026 reporting that heavily armed kidnappers were sighted around the Igbo Ero axis, fleeing from Irele Community in Ekiti State.
Ashiru said the joint security task force, made up of operatives of the Lion Squad team and the Scorpion squad, swung into action immediately, launching a coordinated attack on the armed suspected bandits and a manhunt to rescue the kidnapped victim.
He said upon receiving the distress report, the team quickly mobilized into the forest to rescue the victim through a coordinated search operation through high-risk, cross border security raid that lasted for three days.
“The security team engaged in fierce gunfire and successfully located the kidnappers’ hideout around a mountain called ‘Aso Rock’ in the forest. dislodging the criminals from their camp,” he said.
Ashiru said the kidnappers were overpowered by the coordinated tactical response team of Lion and Scorpion Squads, with the criminals sustaining gunshot injuries during the confrontation.
He explained that the sustained pressure forced the kidnappers to flee and abandon their victim.
“Mr. Idris Idowu has been successfully rescued alive and safely evacuated from the forest to reunite with his family, no casualties were recorded among the members of both teams,” he stated.
The tactical team appreciated Hon. Leke Abejide, member of the House of Representatives, for the support he has given the team.
They called for more supports while calling on residents to provide credible and timely information to help combat criminal activities across Yagba Federal Constituency.
