Fellow Kogites, I need not pause to say how very delighted I am to be here on this new year, and how very delighted I am to see you all expressing our concerns about the issues of Kogi State. I also want to say that I consider it a great honor to share this year with the most distinguished leaders and personalities of our state.
I come to this great magnificent cable because my conscience leaves me no other choice. I join you in this liberational movement also because my conscience leaves me no other choice. A time comes when silence is betrayal. That time has come for us in relation to Kogi.
I have been silenced in many ways in various forms. I felt so tired that I didn’t know where to begin and how to solve, but such should not deter me from raising my voice.
Yesterday in my hometown, I was with some of the workers, some people from neighbouring villages who were forcibly pushed from their houses by Fulani’s herdsmen and felt quite disturbed, as the situation is no different from Idah, Ofu LGA of Kogi State. A colleague asked, “What’s happening?” I said the way things have been handled Yahaya Bello is very unacceptable. How people are made to suffer mercilessly in the hands of thus government, I could feel the pains, angers and frustrations of the people. Of course, I will continue raising my voice against injustice.
I was shocked with the comment from one of the so-called ‘educated colleague’ that says “Bello is perfect in every way ”.
The truth of these words is beyond doubt, but the mission to which they call us is the most difficult one. Even when pressed by the demands of inner truth, men do not easily assume the task of opposing their government’s policy, especially in time of war. Nor does the human spirit move without great difficulty against all the apathy of conformist thought within one’s own bosom and in the surrounding world. Moreover, when the issues at hand seem as perplexing as they often do in the case of this dreadful hardship, we are always on the verge of being mesmerized by uncertainty. But we must move on.
Perhaps a new spirit is rising among us. If it is, let us trace it’s movement, and pray that our inner being maybe sensitive to its guidance. For we are deeply in need of a new way beyond the darkness that seems so close around us.
And if we will only make the right choice, we will be able to transform this pending cosmic elegy into a creative psalm of peace. If we will make the right choice, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our state into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. If we will make the right choice, we will be able to speed up the day, all over Kogi State, where justice will roll down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.
– Alfa Tijani, an advocate of peace and ardent supporter of APC in the last general elections writes from Ajaka, Igalamela LGA of Kogi State.
