University of Benin (UNIBEN) Mass Communication graduate, Santos Oluwadamilare Taiwo has received a commendation from the Kogi State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Femi Osungbohun, after successfully completing his service year.

This happened during the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 Passing Out Parade ceremony held on Thursday 10th October 2024.

To be deserving of this, Santos showed great leadership skills as the Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) Editorial corps team leader at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kabba in November 2023.

He also played a significant role in two editions of the Kogi Kopa magazine. Furthermore, he was a one-time Editorial and Publicity CDS Public Relations Officer, and passed out as the Vice President and Deputy Corps Editor-in-Chief of Kogi Kopa magazine.

Throughout his service, Taiwo utilised his professional voiceover skills, contributing to the team that produced the NYSC Kogi State sanitation audio jingle against cholera, and the official 2024 Batch ‘B’ stream 1 State Coordinator’s Welcome jingle video, to support the efforts of the NYSC management.

His journalism expertise was key in reporting corps members’ activities in Kogi State, as reflected in previous and current editions of the magazine. And he brought his communication skills to bare as the Public Relations Officer for National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Corp members, awarding him a certificate of meritorious service and recommendation from the Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).

Taiwo Santos’ story is a proof that both one’s skills and academic expertise are valid, and can be used to change the world. School is not a scam, neither is gaining valid skills unprofitable.
