On the heels of repeated attacks on churches and worshippers in Kogi State, the Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop John Ibenu, has called for enhanced security measures to protect congregations.
In a directive issued in Lokoja on Wednesday, Ibenu urged churches across the state to request for security assistance and surveillance during worship services.
He counseled that midweek meetings should, as much as possible, close before dark.

“Dearly Beloved, in view of the recent attacks on Churches, I hereby direct that churches should raise their security alert until further notice.
“Churches outside the townships should request the services of local vigilantes and hunters. Form alliances with local securities in your area and report all suspicious movements and strange faces.
“Acquaint yourselves with the phone numbers of security personnel in your locality. Give maximum cooperation to state security officers to ensure adequate care.
“Let us continue to pray for safety and divine protection. Keep us in picture of any imminent security issues that will need government attention,” he said.
Few days ago, a church in Kabba was attacked during Sunday service leaving one dead and about three worshippers kidnapped. Three persons were also abducted recently, when a church was attacked in Osara, Adavi local government area of Kogi state.
