In order not to disenfranchise eligible voters in the forthcoming general election in Kogi State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has decentralised the distribution of Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC).

The Public Relation Officer of the commission, Mr Mathew Ameh, reminding the prospective voters that they cannot vote without the PVC said the decentralisation was done to make the collection of the PVC, easier.

Ameh, in a statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja said, “We have said it in many fora that it is only the PVC that can qualify eligible voters to cast their votes during election. INEC will not accept the Temporary Voter’s Card.”

He urged those who have not collected their PVC to do so at their various wards and registration area headquarters, disclosing that “the distribution commences 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily, till January 31.”

He informed that the Commission has established registration centres across the country, where election material would be distributed to poling units close to them, adding that this would guide against late arrival of materials and ensure early commencement of voting.

“The commission would meet with critical stakeholders like security agents, civil societies, youth groups, media, traditional and religious leaders among others to educate the people on what to do during election, in order to have credible, free and fair election,” he said.
