Incumbent CMD Reveals Revamp Agenda for Kogi HMB

The Chief Medical Director of the Kogi State Hospitals Management Board (HMB), Dr. Usman Zakari has revealed his agenda for restructuring the HMB towards quality health care delivery.
Dr. Zakari made this known while receiving the Senior Special Assistants on Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Health Care in the course of a Familiarization visit at his office in Lokoja.
While commending the vibrant spirit of the Senior Special Assistants, the CMD revealed that a baseline analysis for improving the health care delivery system is currently ongoing and specific strategies comprising of short, medium and long term interventions have been developed.
For his revamp agenda, he revealed that  there will be interventions designed for every single block of the WHO health systems strengthening even as he strives to develop a critical mass of next generation Civil Servants with the capacity to provide clinical systems mentorship and supportive supervision to health care workers across facilities in the state.
Dr. Zakari however noted that quality of health care provided in facilities is a function of technical capacity, dedication to duty, mentorship and supportive supervision which require constant mobility and facility presence.
On the issue of some appalling hospitals in the state raised by the Senior Special Assistant on Primary Health Care, Hon. Tukura Grace.
Dr. Zakari noted that with Health being a salient point in the five thematic areas of the New Direction Blueprint, repairs and renovations were ongoing across some facilities in the state.
Speaking on the issue of pilferages and leakages raised by the Senior Special Assistant on Tertiary Health Care, Hon. Mahmood Maikudi , the CMD noted that the best way to block leakages and pilferages is by consistent monitoring and supervision, demand for accountability by instituting a system that makes pilferages impossible.
On the low IGR generation, he identified one of the causes of low income generation as poor service uptakes due to lack of confidence in the health care system in the state.
Responding, the Senior Special Assistant on Primary Health Care, Hon. Tukura Grace, Senior Special Assistant on Secondary Health Care, Mr. Shaban Shuaibu and the Senior Special Assistant on Tertiary Health expressed satisfaction in the outcome of the meeting with the incumbent CMD.
The SSA’s also commended the plans towards developing the terms of reference and job description for health care workers in the State Hospitals Management Board as well as its use for Performance Management.
