The Clerk of the Kogi state House of Assembly has stated his side of the impeachment story with clarifications.
According to him, the procedure for impeaching the speaker, deputy speaker and the minority leader was wrong and not in conformity with laid down rules as envisaged in the regulations guiding the House.
“The said motion was not seconded, there was no consensus on the motion by honourable members”, he said.
He went further to reveal that no question was put and agreed to as required by the rules for any motion to be considered or adopted as resolutions.
“The entire process was abused and truncated by chaotic situations in the chambers, there was rowdiness, pandemonium in the chambers and the mace was even snatched away making the whole thing an effort in futility.
“Some members also protested as having not signed any impeachment paper while others were surprised to have their signatures forged.
“The whole process was wrong and not in line with the rules.
According to the clerk, Rt. Hon. Momoh Jimoh Lawal remains as the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly
However, the Majority Leader of the House, Prince Kolawole Matthew is still insisting that there is no going back on the impeachment, saying the Speaker lacks capacity to ensure effective leadership of the House.
According to the Majority Leader, the invasion of the Assembly complex by thugs is an admission of failure by the ousted Speaker. He said the House leadership will probe the invasion and the attack of the sponsored thugs on Assembly staff and journalists.
