A member of the House of Representatives, Honorable Ossai Ossai stated while moving a motion on the floor of the House that the impeachment in Kogi state clearly violated the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which required a two-third majority of members to effect such impeachment processes.

Hon. Ossai said the Kogi Assembly incident was a reminder of similar actions in Ogun and Oyo states in the last dispensation, where a minority number sat and impeached the leadership of the assemblies with the support of the state executives.

Members of the Kogi State House of Assembly had on Tuesday, impeached the Speaker of the Assembly, the Deputy Speaker and ten other principal officers.

The house resolved to send an ad-hoc committee to the state to meet with the executive and legislative arm of government to resolve the matter.
