Once attaining independence, Nigeria has experienced recurrent tensions due to the severe horizontal inequalities that exists between different states and groups in the country. The adoption of the Federal character principles as a key reforms programme led to the creation of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).
The agency was created to ensure the equitable representation of different groups in all tiers of governments and its agencies.
The Federal Character Commission is therefore one of the most important agency of governments as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution and it has, since creation, lived up to its mandate of ensuring the monitoring and enforcements of its implementations especially at this time when it is being headed by the indefatigable chairman of the commission, Dr Muheeba Dankaka.
Since her appointments as the chairman, she has left no one in doubt that she is committed to the initiation of many reforms programmes both within and outside the commission that would help in fulfilling its mandate and that of the president, Muhammadu Buhari.
One of the major programme and reforms she has embarked on recently is the renovations and uplifting of the headquarters edifice which has for a long time not being attended to by previous administrations at the commission. She has severally been applauded for this move which many agree as timely and a welcome developments.
The renovations and upliftment of the building has really impacted positively on the image and physical identity of the commission.
The Northern Youth Advocacy Group (NYAG), under the leadership of Comrade Musa Wada, has commended the chairman for her many reformist programme in the commission especially the present projects in renovations being carried out and call of other agencies to emulate her patriotism by thinking out of the box for ways to do same.
Today, it is on record that the FCC is witnessing a new lease of life.
Throughout the history of the agency, the uplifting of its building complex of the commission has never gotten the attention of the leadership of the commission like the present one led by Dr.Muheeba Dankaka. This is so because the importance of this renovations cannot be overemphasized. This renovations has really stood as a representations of the new thinking in the commission, reflecting its new values, successes and eventual outlooks for the future.
The new found image the renovations of the structures and buildings that house the headquarters of the commission is indeed a good one as it serves as a constant reminder of the chairman’s dictum which is reform for change which is a core mantra of the Buhari administrations.
This upliftment by Dr Muheeba Dankaka is a deliberate act meant to create the physical environment condusive for the work of the staff and the numerous visitors who visits the building in pursuits of their endeavours. As stated eailier, the renovation is now part of the culture of the Muheeba Dankaka’s era of creating an image of the federal character commission, as one of best run agency of government in Nigeria. The building renovation is an idea which stands as a representation of how we see the new FCC and as well as how we see our country.
This renovations and upliftment of the FCC headquarters is also the understanding that the building is a part of the discipline within itself and one could argue that it is equally important for the commission that from time to time, it would through its management led by Dr Muheeba Dankaka, push continuously for the building of its working environment in a new ways for the sole purpose of enhancing its work environment.
This renovation is expected not only to affect staffs and visitors on a higher level but also on a more personal level. It would have a profound impact on its occupants which are the staff. It would contribute towards the staffs health, mood and productivity. It has been proved that people who work in well serene environments take less sick leave, are more focused and contribute more to the success of their organisations and the renovations has added this value to the FCC.
