First Lady of Kogi State, Mrs Rashida Bello has assured women in the state of her readiness to work with them to end poverty in the state. Mrs Bello made this known through a press statement by her media aide, Mrs. Olamide Adesoro in Lokoja, Friday.
She promised to always take the issue of maternal health to the frontbench, assuring women of the commitments of her pet project to empowering Kogi women and youths.
She said: “Every society around the world depends on the productivity of healthy women. If women are not healthy, the society is not healthy. It has become indisputable that no nation can develop without first developing the girl child to blossom into responsible, empowered and resourceful woman.
“With the dwindling revenue accruing to government, the organised private sector and the international community must begin to see the need to intervene in the healthcare need of the people.
“Healthcare is not all about drugs and other medicals, but the capacity to empower homes to provide healthy diets and quality living. I am prepared to work with women around the state to threaten the comfort of poverty in our dear state”.
The First Lady urged women in the state to ensure proper upbringing of children, saying the society will be better off if parental responsibility is considered a thing of “epochal importance”.
She hailed the nation’s first lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari for taking it upon herself to meet the needs of the internally displaced persons in the nation.
“Our intervention program in Kogi covers entrepreneurial development, healthcare delivery and educational advancement to help reduce poverty in the state,” she added.
