The entire Igala land is set to roll out the drums in celebration as the revered Igala traditional institution prepares to confer a prestigious chieftaincy title on Mrs. Rosemary Onoja, wife of the legal luminary, Chief Ogwu James Onoja, SAN.

The historic ceremony, scheduled for Monday, December 29, 2025, will take place at the iconic Ata-Igala Palace in Idah, the spiritual and cultural heart of the Igala Kingdom. Mrs. Onoja will be formally honoured with the revered title “Iganya Ata Igala (Igomaganya kima nuchejun)”, a title deeply rooted in Igala tradition and symbolism, signifying honour, service and noble contribution to the community.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Michael Samuel Idoko, media practitioner and community advocate, described the conferment as a moment of pride not just for the Onoja family but for the entire Igala nation.

“This honour reflects the deep respect Mrs. Rosemary Onoja has earned through her humility, professional excellence, and quiet but impactful contributions to society,” Idoko said.
“It is also a celebration of Igala values, service, dignity and recognition of merit.”

Also reacting to the forthcoming event, Comrade Henry Negedu , a prominent youth leader and social commentator, noted that the title represents the recognition of women who positively influence society beyond public glare.

“Mrs. Rosemary Onoja embodies the strength, grace, and intellect of the modern Igala woman,” Comr. Henry Omachoko Negedu stated. “This chieftaincy is well deserved and sends a strong message that service, integrity and commitment to community development will always be honoured.”

Her husband, Chief Ogwu James Onoja, SAN, expressed profound gratitude to the Ata Igala, the traditional council, and the entire Igala Kingdom for the honour bestowed on his wife.

“My family and I are deeply humbled by this great recognition,” Chief Onoja said.
“This honour is not only for my wife but a call to greater service to Igala land and humanity at large. We remain grateful and committed to the values of our people.”

The conferment ceremony is expected to attract traditional rulers, legal luminaries, political leaders, professionals, and well-wishers from across Nigeria and beyond, underscoring the cultural significance of the occasion.

All sons and daughters of Igala land, friends of the family, and members of the public have been warmly invited to witness and partake in this landmark cultural celebration at the Ata-Igala Palace.

As anticipation builds, December 29 promises to be a memorable day, one that reinforces Igala heritage, honours excellence and celebrates the enduring role of women in shaping society.
