Dr. Idris Rufus Oluwafemi (IDRUFEM) has strongly condemned the recent killings and the worsening security situation in Bunu Land, describing the development as deeply troubling and unacceptable.
In a statement on Saturday, IDRUFEM expressed his heartfelt sympathy and solidarity with the bereaved families and the good people of Bunu Land who have been subjected to fear, loss, and uncertainty as a result of these violent incidents.
He noted that no community deserves to live under constant threat, and the sanctity of human life must always remain paramount.
While acknowledging the efforts of security agencies, IDRUFEM stressed that the persistence and escalation of violence clearly indicate the need for a fundamental review of the current strategy being deployed.
He urged the government to, as a matter of urgency and necessity, change its approach and methodology in addressing the security challenges in Bunu Land.
According to him, a more proactive, intelligence-driven, and community-inclusive security framework is required—one that prioritizes early warning systems, timely response, collaboration with local stakeholders, and the addressing of root causes of insecurity rather than reactive measures alone.
Dr. Idris called on all relevant authorities at both state and federal levels to act decisively to restore peace, protect lives and property, and reassure the people of Bunu Land that their safety remains a top priority of government.
He further appealed to community leaders, youths, and residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies, emphasizing that lasting peace can only be achieved through collective responsibility and sincere engagement.
“Bunu Land deserves peace, security, and development. The time to act differently is now,” he added.
