A member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kogi State, Alhaji Idris Gegu has commended Senator Sunday Karimi for donating 2 Hilux vehicles and building two hostels containing 94–bed Military Base in Egbe, Kogi State as part of moves to stem kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities in the border community.
He gave the commendation on Saturday and shortly after the official handing over to the Nigerian Army in the presence of the representative of the Kogi State Governor and other dignitaries.
Idris Gegu lauded Senator Karimi for conceiving the idea of the military base in January this year to assist the Nigerian military and security agencies to ensure quick response in combating terrorists, kidnappers, and criminals whose activities in recent times around the border of Kogi and Kwara (where there is a great expanse of forest that is fast becoming a fortress for criminals) is becoming an issue of national concern.
He thanked Senator Karimi for his initiatives and dedication to his constituents, particularly in the Kogi-West Senatorial district stressing that his efforts have been focused on delivering on his campaign promises and it’s clear that he’s committed to the welfare and development of his Constituency.
He urged the military operatives to make adequate use of the facilities provided to serve as a deterrence to these criminals and restore peace and security in the communities in Kogi and Kwara States.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, who was represented by the Ground Officer Commanding 2 Division, of the Nigerian Army, Major General, Obinna Onubogu applauded the initiative of constructing the FOB saying the facility would no doubt enhance security operations in Egbe town and other border communities between Kogi and Kwara States.
Also speaking, the governor of the State, Usman Ododo, represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Commander Jerry Omadara (retd), said the base would enable the Army to have the security of the area under its control.
He applauded Senator Sunday Karimi for this wonderful initiative in the fulfillment of his constituency responsibility stating that the establishment of this Forward Operating Base will form a chain of influx into Kogi State, providing the needed safety for the people, and also allow the Nigerian Army to take firm control of the security of this area, including Yagba East and beyond.
The handing over ceremony was attended by dignitaries drawn from within and outside the state.
