The four local government chairmen on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Idah federal constituency of Kogi state have assured the member representing Idah federal constituency, Hon. David Idris Zacharias of their continued commitment to support him to enable him bring development to the constituency.
The chairmen gave the assurance when they paid a courtesy call on the lawmaker at the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday to formally congratulate him on his emergence as the member representing the constituency, as well as his victory at the Tribunal and Appeal Court.
Speaking on behalf of the other three, APC chairman of Ofu local government area, Hon. Yahaya Shagari said they were in his office to congratulate him on behalf of the party in the local government areas and to assure him of their support as he takes on the task of representing them.
Shagari added that the party is looking up to him to make them proud in his activities at the national assembly, adding that the confidence they have in him which led to his election will be strengthened if only he carries the party along and make informed decision that will better the lot of the constituents.
They commended him in the areas of peace building, granting scholarships to the physically challenged and specially gifted persons, the installation of street lights in parts of Idah and Ofu with a plea on him to scale up same in the remaining two local governments of Ibaji and Igalamela/Odolu.
On his part, Idah local government APC party Chairman, Hon. Abu Agada encouraged the lawmaker not to relent in the good works he is doing for the constituency within the limited time in office, but assured him that his efforts are being appreciated.
Hon. David Idris Zacharias who appreciated the party leaders for their visit, assured them that he will do all within his powers to keep to his campaign promises and that he will work closely with the good people of Idah federal constituency in bringing development to their local governments no matter how small it may be.
He called on the chairman to be agents of peace, connect with the people at the grass roots, feel their challenges and ensure that they place the priority of party members first before theirs.
According to him, only loyal members of the party will be considered should there be benefits coming to the local governments, hence he charged them to be focused and loyal.
He used the visit to charge the party leaders to do everything within their reach to stop any form of violence that may arise in their areas, especially those that will come in form political forms.
He noted that he was still grappling with the grief of the death of the PDP women leader in Ochadamu, adding that he has assured the family of late Salome Abuh that those behind the acts will face the consequences of their actions.
The chairmen in their consensus retreated their commitment to make the constituency the most peaceful in the state through collaboration, advocacy and continued education of the people on inter-religious and inter-party relationship in the days ahead.
