Ikoyi-Ijumu Development Association (IDA) has condemned the spate of kidnapping incidents in the community.

In a statement signed by the Deputy National Secretary, Ayorinde Fajimokun, IDA said the recent abduction of travellers along the highway in the community calls for urgent action.

Some travellers we reportedly abducted in the community on Tuesday.

Fajimokun said the action of criminal elements is putting Ikoyi-Ijumu, in Ijumu local govenment area of Kogi state, in bad light.

“Our attention has been drawn to the reported kidnapping against travelers on the highway in our community on Tuesday 15th February 2022. The unfortunate incident is not the first time to be carried out at the same spot by agents of evil masquerading themselves as kidnappers who are out to put our community in the bad side of news.

“Our community, among others, is widely renown for peace and peaceful coexistence over the years until kidnappers took advantage of the current nation’s security challenges to perpetrate this evil and have established their spotlights in our community.

“The commitment and contributions of IDA and stakeholders from Ikoyi to the Ijumu LGA Security Trust Fund through Ijumu Development Union and our reformed Corps of Vigilantes are the best we could contribute to ongoing efforts at protecting our people and the entire community.

“As a community, our long time strategies, financial commitments and donations towards internal security management should be improved upon and levies paid as it is due.

“While the nation continues to manage its current security challenges, let us all be aware that security is everyone business and we must play our roles to keep our community safe and peaceful,” he said.

IDA said the latest incident has been reported to security agencies and calls for more deployment of security personnel and local vigilantes to all the flash points of security threats until they are totally flushed out.
