The U-turn made by Kogi State chapter of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to organise fresh governorship primaries is seen by political observers as a deft move by the out-going Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, to plant one of his present commissioners as his successor.

With the announcement that governorship primaries will hold September, two serving commissioners in Ibro’s cabinet have signified interest in the Lugard House. The two commissioners are: Professor Aaron Baba who is the Commissioner for Information, Special Duties, Science & Technology and Alhaji Abubakar Adama who is serving as Commissioner for Works.

The continuous endorsements that have poured in for Prof. Aaron Baba within a short time shows a deliberate move to market his candidacy across the state. At the last count, 36 different forums and associations have publicly endorsed his aspiration to rule the confluence state. These groups include; Dr. Steven Makoji Achema Youth Vanguard, Ugbabo/Ofokphehe Youths Solidarity Forum, Kogi democratic Frontiers, Kogi Progressive Youth for Change, Kogi Youth Network & Forum, Kogi East Youth Vanguard and Omala Youth Network among a host of other associations.

Sources from within the ‘Ibro Family’ suggests that the governor is reconsidering his support for Alhaji Isah Jubrin Echocho whom the sources claim was imposed on the governor by some powerful interests within the party. The governor is said to be keen on supporting one of his proteges as his successor and Professor Aaron is likely to be his joker.
