The Ibaji Progressive Youth Foundation (IPYF) says it is outraged and deeply disheartened by the recent destruction of its promotional banners, which were erected to promote their community program.
In a statement signed by Ojodomo Unekwu, IPYF stated that the despicable act, carried out by thugs allegedly sponsored by the Ibaji government, occurred within a mere 24 hours of the banners being displayed.
The group said destruction of its banners is a blatant attack on their rights to freedom of expression and community engagement.
“We vehemently condemn this cowardly act of vandalism, which not only undermines our efforts to uplift and empower the youth of Ibaji but also reflects the poor governance that we have consistently criticized.
“The destruction of our banners is emblematic of a broader pattern of intimidation and suppression that has no place in a democratic society. It is a clear indication that the current leadership is more interested in silencing dissent than in fostering a healthy dialogue with its constituents.
“Let it be known that we are not an opposition POLITICAL PARTY to the Ibaji government; rather, we are Organization dedicated to advocating for the rights and welfare of Ibaji People. Our mission is to promote positive change and development in Ibaji, and we will not be deterred by such underhanded tactics.
“The actions of the Ibaji representatives sponsor thugs are a reflection of the government’s failure to provide a safe and conducive environment for civic engagement,” he said.
IPYF demanded for the arrest of those responsible for the destruction and urged the representative of Ibaji to desist from the evil childish act and focus more on uniting the people and development rather than resorting to mere threats and destruction.
The Ibaji Progressive Youth Foundation said it will continue to speak out against poor governance and advocate for the rights of their community.
“We will not be silenced, and we will not back down. Our commitment to the Ibaji people is unwavering, and we will persist in our efforts to bring about positive change, regardless of the obstacles we face.”
