Chairman of Yagba-East Local Government Area of Kogi State, Funsho Ibrahim, has denied media reports that he was chased out of office by workers during last week’s protest.
The chairman, who spoke through the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to ALGON, Ibrahim Obansa, said he was not even in the state when the incident was said to have occurred.
“The chairman, Funsho Ibrahim, travelled out of the state during the period stated in the report, so it was not possible for someone who was not in town to have been chased by protesting staff,” he said.
He said the report was the handiwork of “some desperate politicians who believe that the only way to be relevant politically is to run their opponents down,” calling on the media to always verify their stories before going to press.
While insisting that the issue of salary shortfall was not peculiar to Yabga-East, the chairman promised to always make staff welfare a priority.
Last week, the local government chairman, Funsho Ibrahim, was alleged to have been chased out of office by workers who were protesting short fall in salaries.
