The embattled Chairman, Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State, Moses Peter Oricha has described the constitution of Caretaker Committee by the National Working Committee of the party as illegal in the State.

Oricha disclosed this on Thursday morning in a chat with our correspondent in Lokoja.

He alleged that the Chief Sam Ranti Abenemi led SDP Caretaker Committee is working against the interest and progress of the party in Kogi State.

“We won’t allow the Deputy Governorship candidate to Muritala Ajaka in connivance with some National Executives illegally impose himself on us in a party we have built from the scratch. There was no reason for the acclaimed National Working Committee to dissolve the state executive council in Kogi State.

“If you are going to dissolve a committee, there should be reasons. It could be as a result of Anti party, misappropriation of fund and many more. But in our case, nothing of such.

“After sacrificing alot, they are now plotting to take us out and takeover SDP in the state. This is the height of impunity. I would further describe this as a coup that has never happened in the history of any political party in Nigeria,” he stated.

On the forthcoming Local Government election in Kogi State, Oricha said “intending aspirants for the forthcoming Local Government election in Kogi State should not patronize the purported Abenemi led Caretaker Committee of SDP. Anything coming from them is illegal, null and void. I remain the constitutionally recognized Chairman of SDP who will supervise any of the party activities ahead of the forthcoming Local Government election.”

It could be recalled that the National Chairman of SDP, Alhaji Shehu Gabam and Secretary, Dr Olu Agunloye in a letter dated 22nd July 2024 announced the appointment of Caretaker Committee of the party in Kogi State.
