Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has distanced himself from the orchestrated campaign of calumny trying to defame him among Igala speaking tribe of the state.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Muhammed, Governor Bello said he holds every tribe in Kogi in high esteem and can never go low by ascribing anything offensive and negative to any tribe.
He described the false quotes going round on the social media as evil plots of mischief makers.
“The attention of Kogi State Government has been drawn to some unverifiable and false quotes going round in the social media which are credited to the state Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
“Motivated by sheer mischief and malice, groups operating under pseudo identities have gone out dishing out fake, non-existing and unfounded information aimed at ridiculing the personality of his Excellency the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello. Latest of these evil diatribes is the poorly worded material accusing the governor of disparaging the Igala tribe. Let it be on record that this is one of the evil plots of mischief makers.
“The governor holds every tribe in Kogi in high esteem and can never go low by ascribing anything offensive and negative to any tribe.
“The governor is boundless like the sea and limitless like the air, he is detribalized and holds every tribe in high respect. Citizens are enjoined to disregard the antics of disgruntled politicians whose penchants are fabrication of lies, concocted falsehood and sustained conflict amplification.
His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello remained strong, resolute and determined to lead the state on the basis of fairness, equity and justice,” the statement read.
Unverified quotes ascribed to Governor Bello dominated discussion on social media on Sunday evening. The quotes suggested that the governor believes he can buy over an average Igala man at the right price.
