In a season when the cry for purposeful governance resounds across Kogi State and Nigeria in general, the people of Ankpa, find in Engr. Ademu Yahaha Mohammed a leader whose hands do not rest and whose heart knows no boundaries of creed or clan. His reception of HRH Ajofe Sunday Suleiman, the Chief Praise Singer ( Onu Awohi Attah Igala) from Ehecho Ejinya, Udama District, was not the perfunctory courtesy of office, but the embrace of a leader who sees governance as kinship and service as a sacred trust.
I, Ajofe Suleiman, went to his office and returned not merely received, but affirmed—that humility yet walks among men who hold power. In his warmth, I saw proof that the proverb stands true: “The king who lowers his head to greet his people will never lack followers in the marketplace.” Such was the aura of our meeting.
But our visit was not only to hail him with words; it was also to bind commitment with commitment. As sons of the soil and custodians of Igala tradition, we declared our readiness to synergize with him in strengthening the pillars of security, in deepening the wells of good governance, and in lifting the banner of progress above the roofs of Ankpa. For governance, like wrestling, is never won alone— “When one hand washes the other, both become clean.”
Engr. Mohammed is no ordinary council boss. He is a workman in the vineyard of the people, toiling without the poison of religious bigotry, a workaholic whose energy circles every ward and community. His leadership carries the quiet strength of the river: calm on the surface yet full of force beneath.
Our people must know this truth: power that is sung by the community is not rehearsed; it is lived. I stand as witness that this chairman wears humility as a garment, and passion as his staff. “When the drumbeat is steady, even the lame will rise to dance,” says our wisdom. Today, Ankpa hears such a drumbeat in his governance.
We return from his presence with hope kindled anew, with assurance that together—leaders of tradition and leaders of office—we shall weave security, prosperity, and harmony into the fabric of our land. And in the years to come, may history say of this season that Ankpa once had a chairman whose reign was defined not by noise, but by noble deeds, and a people who chose to walk with him.
