Whereas the Wada Administration has repeatedly assured of its disposition and commitment to finding a lasting solutions to the ever-busy Ganaja junction as a measure of control of the gridlock and filth within the metropolis, more facts have emerged as to why the fly-over bridge being contemplated is yet to materialize.
Governor Wada, responding to a comment during interaction with stakeholders, recently, disclosed that government was made to have a rethink over the bridge project following experts’ advice to the contrary.
The speaker, a community leader, had urged the governor to, as a way of immortalizing his name, expedite action on the construction of the bridge. But Wada, in his reply, said the delay in starting the project derived from the advice of the consultants approached to provide the template for the project but who stated in their report that a flyover would not be necessary option in the task of addressing the pains of motorists and road users at the said point. In the place of a bridge, he said an alternative suggestion had been raised by the experts which, aside costing government less money, will effectively address traffic problems of Ganaja junction.
Wada said government is studying the proposal and weighing all the options on the table towards arriving at a decision.ย Wada said residents who wished to see a flyover in Lokoja should not be discouraged yet as it is not totally discarded with.
“In the long rung, if and where a flyover is found to be viable and effective option, why not? But right now we are being guided by the professional advice at our disposal”
On the immortalization question, Wada said he was not in a hurry to take undue credits for the bridge construction especially if doing so will amount to “fanciful things”, undeserved and will cost the state more fund than necessary.
