Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila has commended the Kogi State House of Assembly for partnering with the Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies to organise a laudable enhancement program to broaden the knowledge of the members on their constitutional roles.
The Speaker who was represented at the opening ceremony of the workshop by the Deputy Leader of the House, Hon Peter Akpatason gave the commendation for being a role model in that regard.
According to him, Kogi State House of Assembly is the first State Assembly in the country to partner and take advantage of the institute’s programmes to sharpen their knowledge in carrying out their functions since the inauguration of the present National Assembly.
In his welcome address, the Director General of the institute, Professor Abubakar Olarewaju Suleiman eulogized Kogi State House of Assembly for their decision to have their training session in the Institute.
He said the Legislative and Democratic Studies Institute is established for the training and retraining of lawmakers and other officers in the Legislative Sector in Nigeria and other countries.
He said Kogi State House of Assembly is a leading light among the states to partner with the institute to organise workshops and capacity building for its members.
The 7th assembly is attending a 3-day workshop and capacity building program organized to keep the members abreast of the modern techniques of carrying out their legislative assignments.
The workshop which is being organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, National Assembly, Abuja to get the 25 members acquainted with the rudiments of providing qualitative legislations for the rapid development of the state.
Top members of the State Assembly and management staff were also on ground to participate in the program.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Matthew Kolawole and other members will be here in the next two days to acquire more knowledge of how to go about their legislative assignments.
