No fewer than 700 residents of Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State have benefited from a cash and food palliative distribution organised by the member representing Omala State Constituency at the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon Umar Yahaya.
The empowerment programme, which took place in Abejukolo, the headquarters of Omala local government area, saw the distribution of millions of naira in cash alongside food items to youths, women, the elderly and other vulnerable persons.
Hon. Yahaya, who addressed beneficiaries during the exercise, said the intervention forms part of his broader empowerment and social intervention programmes designed to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach the people of Omala.
He said, “As a representative of the people, my responsibility goes beyond lawmaking. It is important that we continue to support our people, especially in challenging times like this.”
The lawmaker assured his constituents of sustained empowerment initiatives, noting that more programmes targeted at improving livelihoods and promoting sustainable development would be unveiled in due course.

Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke with journalists, described the exercise as timely, commending Hon. Yahaya for what they described as his consistent commitment to grassroots development and people-oriented leadership.
Community leaders also praised the lawmaker, saying the empowerment exercise reflected responsive representation and a clear understanding of the needs of the people.
