Member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, Hon. Salman Idris has expressed shock and sadness over the demise of esteemed elder statesman, Alhaji Ganiyu Obatoyinbo who passed away in London after a brief illness.
In a statement from his office, Hon. Salman described the demise of Alhaji Obatoyinbo as a monumental loss for Ijumu, Okun and Kogi State at large noting that he was a rallying point for everybody.
Alhaji Obatoyinbo was a highly respected elder statesman who played an excellent role in providing wise counsel and intervention in political and community matters.
As an illustrious son of Ijumu Local Government Area from Iyamoye, Alhaji Obatoyinbo left a huge legacy of impact. He was known to have facilitated several job opportunities for indigent Okun sons and daughters in various Federal Government agencies and contributed significantly to the development of Ijumu Local Government Area.
Alhaji Obatoyinbo served as Secretary of Programme (Administrative Head) of the National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) under President Olusegun Obasanjo and held directorial roles in key agencies, including the National Planning Commission, and Ministries of Commerce and Industries, Interior, Women Affairs and Tourism and Culture. Until his death, he was the sole administrator of the public service institute of Nigeria.
Hon. Salman Idris noted that Alhaji Obatoyinbo’s death has left a huge vacuum and prayed for God’s consolation for his family, the people of Iyamoye community, Kogi State and the Nation at large. He also prayed for the eternal repose of the deceased’s soul.
