Member representing Okene I State constituency in Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Lawi AT Ahmed has called on Governor Yahaya Bello to repair bad portions on Lokoja-Okene federal road before December to alleviate the suffering of road users.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Comrade Danfulani Lukman in Lokoja on Tuesday, Lawi said that the step had become imperative considering the disaster the road could bring to residents and economic activities in the area.
“The road is in a very terrible condition. It is so damaged that unless care is taken, it will lead to more loss of lives during December period when the road will be more busy.
“Our people cannot wait for Federal Government to fix the road as the month of December is fast approaching.
“I wish to call on the governor to direct all relevant ministries, departments and agencies in the state to help with palliative measures on this road,” he said.
The lawmaker said that there was need for an urgent intervention by the state government, stressing that the road is germane to the economic activities of the state.
He also urged the state government to give attention to all the state roads in Okene that currently need repair.
“Most of the federal roads in Kogi State are suffering and the paucity of funds cannot allow the state to fix all of them.
“I will continue to call on the Federal Government to do the needful, we cannot close our eyes to all these roads,” he added.
Hon. Lawi also called on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to wake up to its responsibility on federal roads in the state.
