Kogi State Commissioner of Health, Idris Omede, said HIV prevalence rate in the state dropped from 5.8 per cent in 2009 to 1.4 per cent in 2013.
Omede disclosed this yesterday during the inauguration of the state management team for the implementation of the Presidential Comprehensive Response Plan for HIV/AIDS(PCRP) by Governor Idris Wada.
The commissioner, who is also chairman of the team, said they will work towards zero discrimination and zero death.
Also speaking, Governor Idris Wada said the initiative to inaugurate the team was informed by the desire to develop a home grown response plan that will enable the state take greater ownership and accountability of its response to HIV/ AIDS.
Wada, who was represented by his deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, urged the team to show commitment and dedication in the fight.
Earlier, the Director, Kogi State Agency for the control of AIDS (KOSACA) Dr. Gabriel Musa said out of the 90,429 people who are living with HIV/AIDS in the state, only 18,000 are on ART.
He assured that with the comprehensive response plan, more people will be provided with ART.
