The Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON) has declared its support for teachers in Kogi State, in the struggle for better welfare and payment of their outstanding salaries.

The teachers had earlier demanded the sum of N32 billion from the government as salary arrears.

They said N23 billion was the outstanding arrears for the new minimum wage while N8.7 billion was unpaid leave allowances for four years.

Kogi State AOPSHON Chairman, Comrade Dominic Ondeku, and Secretary, Comrade Onuche Samson, made the remarks in a press statement issued in Abuja yesterday. The statement denied a recent media reports that AOPSHON hasn’t supported the teachers and their union over the unpaid monies.

The statement said, “We want to put it on record that the association (AOPSHON) has been commending the efforts of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) in demanding for better condition of service. We also reassure our members that we are committed to the struggle to salvage basic education and teacher all over Kogi State.”
