Wife of Governor of Kogi Hajia Halima Wada on Tuesday inaugurated a fish processing machine for use by women in Idah Local Government Area of the state.
The equipment was inaugurated under the auspices of Kogi Women Empowerment Network (KOWEN), a pet project of Wada to empower women, especially those living in the rural areas.
Wada said on the occasion that the machine was expected to reduce the drudgery women undergo in processing their fish, adding that it would also help the women to become self-reliant and open more markets.
Wada said that the machine would help women to produce cracker fish, bush meat, fish cake, while there were plans to
purchase more for women in other local government areas.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Ms Patience Mameh, who was represented by Ms Joy Akor, said the knowledge gained from the project would be applied into other areas for profitable ventures.
Earlier, the Director of the Local Government Council, Malam Musa Bako, had thanked the governor’s wife for sitting the project at Idah, noting that it would go a long way in reducing women hardship.
