Gunmen suspected to be political thugs recently invaded the palace of the Onu-Oda-Adogo of Ette in Kogi State, Chief Aaron Ako, beat him black and blue and killed a security man who attempted to rescue him.

It was gathered that the monarch, who was critically injured and currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, also lost huge amount of money to the hoodlums.

According to eyewitness account, the gunmen invaded the palace at about 1.00 a.m. from a neigbouring town in Enugu State and descended on the monarch and members of his family. The security man, who put up strong resistance despite several gunshots fired at him, was later overpowered and dragged to a nearby bush where he was allegedly strangled.

The natives suspected that the attack might not be unconnected with a lingering boundary tussle between Ette community in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State and some neigbouring communities in Enugu State.

Speaking with Daily Sun on phone, Chief Ako said he lost his royal robe, staff of office, money and some other valuables to the hoodlums, while his car and generating set were set ablaze.

The royal father, who accused some politicians in Enugu State, called on  the Kogi State Government to come to his rescue and the Ette community.

He also called on the police to, as a matter of urgency, establish a police station in his community to curb the incessant attacks.

The new Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Paul Okafor, could not be reached for comments but sources close to him said he was yet to be briefed on the matter.
