A socio-political group under the aegis of Yagba West Equity and Justice Advocate Group has expressed strong opposition to the bid for a third term by the current representative of Yagba Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.

The group conveyed its stance in a formal letter signed signed by it spokesperson, Comrade Babatunde Idris and submitted to Hon. Idowu Ibikunle, Minority Leader and member representing Yagba West Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly. The letter, dated May 1, was received by Ibikunle’s secretary on his behalf.

In the letter, the group decried the continuous occupation of the federal seat by Yagba East, stating that it contravenes the long-standing rotational principle among Mopa-Amuro, Yagba East, and Yagba West local government areas.

According to the group, while Mopa-Amuro produced a representative for just one term between 1999 and 2003, both Yagba East and Yagba West have each held the seat for multiple terms. They maintained that allowing Yagba East to complete a third consecutive term would deepen the feeling of marginalization and further weaken the ruling APC’s chances at the polls.

The group commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his efforts in maintaining political balance and urged him to support the emergence of a candidate from Mopa-Amuro for the 2027 House of Representatives election.

They pledged loyalty to the governor’s administration and stressed the importance of fairness, justice, and equitable distribution of political offices to sustain peace and unity across the state.
