A group, Concerned Kogi Leaders of Thought (CKLT), has faulted Governor Yahaya Bello’s Chief of Staff, Edward Onoja for engaging in what they called lavish celebration of his birthday at the Government House with the state funds at a time all the governments in the country are crying for money to provide democracy dividend to their citizenry.
Chairman of the CKLT, Mr. Salisu Ibrahim, told newsmen, Tuesday, in Lokoja, the state capital, that it amounted to insensitivity on the part of the governor’s Chief of Staff to lavish the state lean resources on a birthday party, when there are many projects that have been abandoned and crying for attention in the state due to lack of fund.
“It is unnecessary waste of public fund for Onoja to organized his birthday to massage his ego at a period when the revenue profiles of various governments in the country have gone down drastically and when workers in Kogi State are yet to be paid seven months salaries.
“Funny enough, yesterday, Bello drove himself from Abuja to Lokoja to horridly attend the birthday party living his convoy at Abuja,” said the CKLT Chairman.
Ibrahim accused Bello of undue interference in the Local Government funds in the state and questioned the where about of about N9 billion being allocation of Local Governments in the state for the past 5 months.
Accusing the Governor of lacking administrative knowledge and ability to govern the state, Ibrahim frowned at his action to bring Local Government administration in the state to a halt by starving them of their statutory fund, alleging that Bello had directed that Local Government Administrators cannot carryout projects exceeding N400,000, which he said has crippled development in the Local Governments in the state.
The group challenged the governor to publish the comprehensive allocation of the state and local governments in the past 5 months and what have been done with the money, alleging that Bello could not have claimed to be working when there are abandoned projects dotted all over the states.
The group also said that Bello’s government has been imposing indiscriminate and astronomical levies on individuals and groups carrying out legitimate businesses in the state.
Recall that, this is the seventh of the lavish ceremonies Bello and his aides had organized at the Government House since he (Bello), assumed office in January this year.
