Group Honours Wemi Jones, Lauds Education Sector Renaissance in Kogi State

National Youth for Women Empowerment and Education in Nigeria (NYWEEN) has conferred the ‘Icon of Education Development’ award of excellence on Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones.

NYWEEN presented the award to Jones at the just concluded 3rd Edition of Mrs Ladi Kwali Colloquium Themed “Women and Drug Abuse in Nigeria; Education and Empowerment as a panacea to the social menace” in Abuja.

The group lauded the remarkable successes witnessed in the education sector in Kogi state in the last eight years.

While receiving that award, the Commissioner thanked the group and dedicated the award to Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo, whom he noted has shown grater commitments to the cause of education by consolidating on the already existing template of the immediate past governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

He noted that Kogi state has shown its resolve to prioritize education at all levels as reflected in government’s policies and huge investment in the sector through massive infrastructures and other programmes and policies that concerns education in the state.

The commissioner noted that the award would spur his personal resolution to work harder under the leadership of the state governor and re-commit to ensuring that the current government fulfil its mandate.

In his remarks, the convener of NYWEEN, Amb. Ibrahim Ibrahim noted that the Kogi State education commissioner has worked tirelessly to position the sector of the state on the right track, hence he was truly deserving of the recognition.

He assured that as part of its objectives, NYWEEN would continue to ensure robust partnership with government and its stakeholders in a bid to ensure that the goal of the organisation was achieved maximally.
