An Abuja based non-governmental organisation, Perfect House of Friends (PHF) yesterday donated hospital items to the Okene General Hospital in Okene, Kogi State.
Presenting the items yesterday, president of the group, Mr Abubakar Kent Muhammed, said the donation was to compliment efforts of the state government in providing health facilities. He said availability of quality healthcare facilities is a serious issue in Nigeria, and on paper, communities are said to have primary healthcare, but in reality, the situation is very different.
According to him, hospital facilities in the state and the country at largely either over-stretched , obsolete or grossly inadequate, thereby putting communities in very disadvantaged health situations, causing high infant and maternal mortality rates and low life expectancy.
Muhammed urged the hospital management to make judicious use of the items to spur on other individuals or groups to do more for the benefit of people who cannot afford quality health care services in private hospitals.
Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Suleiman Abdulsalam, commended the gesture, assuring that the items would go a long way in assisting patients. He however called on individuals and corporate organizations to emulate the PHF in making lives meaningful for the less privileged. Items donated include 100 fibre mattresses and pillows, 100 drips and 40 drip stands, 200 bed sheets and pillow cases as well as 25 wooden benches.
