A group, Kogi Central Leaders Initiative (KCLI), has warned politicians not to hide under the struggle to revamp moribund Ajaokuta Steel Complex as their campaign pitch to woo electorate to their advantage.

The group, which has its presence across Kogi State, gave the warning on Wednesday in Lokoja while fielding questions from Journalists.

Its spokesman, Onimisi Musa Onakpa, said the warning became necessary to alert the people about the unscrupulous politicians using the unfortunate national asset to win cheap popularity for electioneering.

The group described it as a scam for one of the politicians who is allegedly being funded by TPE Consortium, the original builder of Ajaokuta steel, who is going around the places telling the people from the area that she was working assiduously to see to the quick resuscitation of the complex.

It noted that the gimmick of the politician whose antecedents and actions  had been to push for the Federal Government to concede the Ajaokuta Steel Industry to TPE an agreement she claimed  the partners will actualize,  which is making her to get their sponsorship.

The group described the scenario as most regrettable, as her major campaign tool was nothing but a deception.

It observed that what Ajaokuta needed to  come on stream  was  for the Federal Government to show total commitment to its completion , rather than for  an individual or group of individuals to make empty promises, calling on politicians  to devote more of their energies on issue based campaigns.
