Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has congratulated Kogi-born Professor Ozovehe Mike Ogirima on his election as the President of the Nigerian Medical Association.
Professor Ogirima is the Chief Consultant Orthopedic and Trauma Surgeon at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria.
Governor Bello described Prof. Ogrima’s election as reward for academic and professional distinction, urging him to use his tenure to expand the frontiers of medical practice in Nigeria. He said the world-class surgeon possesses the requisite capacity to lead the over 40,000 members of the NMA. Bello also congratulates Dr. Ahmed Attah who also emerged as the Assistant Secretary General of the Association.
Dr. Ahmed Attah is the head of Medicals at the Kogi State Specialist Hospital,Lokoja and served as Chairman Medical and Emergency Committee of the Inauguration Committee of His Excellency on January 27th,2016.
The Governor urged the new NMA leadership to key into President Muhammadu Buhari’s policy of reducing foreign medical trips through strengthening of medicare in Nigeria, expressing confidence in the present administration’s determination to ensure the wellness of the Nigerian people.
In a related development, Governor Yahaya Bello wishes to extend his deep sympathies to the Government and people of Ekiti State and the families of the deceased doctors who lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident on their way to the NMA Congress. He said the Kogi people share the grief of the nation over the loss of the heroes of healthcare in Nigeria.
Governor Yahaya Bello pledges the support of the Kogi State Government to the Nigerian Medical Association, the biggest Medical Association in sub-Sahara Africa.
